Boralex Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Scottish civil engineering and construction firm RJ McLeod as the Balance of Plant (BoP) contractor for its 108MW Limekiln Wind Farm near Thurso in Caithness, Scotland.
Country Manager Esbjörn Wilmar said: “Having the BoP contract in place represents another major step forward for Limekiln, not long after a strong Contract for Difference was secured. RJ McLeod has successfully worked with us in the past and we are very pleased to have them on board again. Apart from their excellent construction capabilities, RJ McLeod has strong local links which allows our investment to directly support the Highland economy.”
Nicolas Wolff, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Europe, commented: “Our aim is to deliver 1GW of operational and ready-to-build renewable energy assets in the UK by 2030. Limekiln is instrumental in realising that ambition and it is great to see the project progress. The next few months will see full site mobilisation and works including cable trenching and turbine foundation pouring, among other things. Our team is on track to have Limekiln fully operational by 2025.”
The Balance of Plant contract arranges all infrastructure required for the installation of a wind farm outside of the turbine supply agreement. Limekiln Wind Farm consists of 24 Vestas V136-4.5MW wind turbines measuring 150m to the tip of the blade. The turbine supply agreement was secured with Vestas last year.
